97.5.15. LM/HOLLAND C.5022
Dear Mr. Edixhoven!
Excuse me
for my poor english.
After 10 years waiting, I have got an message on my two pictures
Lassan,
nyugodtan /Slowly, peacefully /opusz:
A/79/1, 1979
Régi
zsidó temetô virágzó fával /Old jewish cemetery with tree in blossom / opusz:
A/84/50, 1984
I'm very happy. It was bought on an Sotheby's
auction, in Amsterdam, 1987, by an unknown dealer. Since that time it was
written in my opus-catalogue: „it is hidden”. (I write all the informations of
my pictures very precisely in computer.)
The Old jewish cemetery is one of my most
important pictures, it's variation is in Hungaryan National Gallery (Museum).
It was an unhappy mistake to let it to travel on abroad. Since that time it is
written on the backside of my all pictures:
IF POSSIBLE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE MY WORK ABROAD.
Except: public collections, museums.
It is an 10 year old story, now I am happy, the
picture exist, an You like it. Are the pictures in Yours home? Are You an
art-collector? Did You bought it in an art-gallery? Have You childrens too, (if
these question is not an indiscretion)?
We live rather poor (2 children), it is unlikely
I will ever see You, and my pictures in
Holland. (I have seen in map Nijmegen, it is south 20 kilometre to
Arnheim.) Fortunately I have good
slides on all my pictures. It would be pleasent for Yours visiting to as in
Hungary.
I'm active catholic, it was an 3 and half years
long excursion in my live to paint Jewish cemeteries. It was an very important
period in my oeuvre, between 1984-1987. I painted 104 cemeteries, it exist 68,
the rest of them would be destroyed, because they were weak. Since that times I
paint another subject: „Atelier-serie”
In autum 1987 I will be 55 year old, I make an
greater exhibition opening in 22 october in the Ernst Museum, Budapest. At that
time will be published an monography on my oeuvres, if Good will help us.
(Money problems of the publisher.) In the book will be 130 color reproductions.
I dont send You old catalogues, they are uncolor, very poor printing.
Thank You for Yours Letter:
